After Adekunle Gold finally dropped his highly anticipated sophomore album, About 30, the gifted singer followed up with the video for “Fame” — his most stripped-down visual effort to date. Now, he’s back with a high-concept clip for one of the album’s catchiest tracks, “Surrenda”.
Since Adekunle Gold burst onto the scene with “Sade”, he has made a solid career out of singing about the different facets of falling in love — whether it’s the pressure to change yourself on “Call On Me” or external disapproval on “No Forget” — and “Surrenda” is no different.
On the track, Adekunle Gold sings about feeling unworthy of a great love story, but eventually finding someone that makes him feel deserving. “I’ve been running away from love/Cause I’m feeling like I am not enough/But you make me feel like I am everything you need”, he confesses.
For the Sam Kirk-directed music video, Adekunle Gold and his lover simply frolick and dance around a space station — think 2016’s Passengers, but a lot less creepy. While there isn’t much of an overarching narrative to latch on to, it’s still a pretty cool video nonetheless.
